With the Federal Government’s focus on jobs and growth, the upcoming Federal Budget is the ideal opportunity to top up the EMDG funding pool. Doing so will ensure that exporters will have certainty and confidence knowing they will receive their grant.
The EMDG scheme provides practical support to Australian exporters to take advantage of new international opportunities opened up by Free Trade Agreements. The demand for EMDG has been increasing over the past four years, this growth is expected to continue with grants numbers forecasted to reach 4,000 by next year.
This increase is good news for Australia and statistics from the 2017 Foreign Policy White Paper illustrate just how important Australian exporters are to our economy, employment and standard of living.
- Over 50,000 Australian businesses export
- Australian exports contributed $337 billion in 2016
- Exporting business employ more people and pay higher wages
- 1 in 7 jobs rely on exports
We have written to numerous Federal Ministers outlining the need for extra funding (see below). Extra funding for EMDG was recommended in the 2015 EMDG Review by Michael Lee and more recently The Australia 2030 – Prosperity Through Innovation Report by Innovation and Science Australia.
We know of a number of individual exporters and industry bodies who have supported the call for additional funding. EMDG has successfully created export opportunities for Australian companies for over 40 years. To ensure that EMDG continues to provide Australian exporters with opportunities in the future, write to the Minister for Trade Tourism & Investment ([email protected]) and your Local MP.
